Royal Irish Academy of Music The Golden Age & Celtic Tiger

May 16, 2017 @ 7:30 pm

The 18th century was a golden age for music in Ireland, with leading musicians from all over Europe, including Geminiani, Dubourg, Castrucci, Arne and the celebrated Handel frequently visiting Dublin to play in concert halls and the salons of musical patrons. The American Irish Historical Society is the elegant setting for a collaborative performance project which will see RIAM musicians, led by composer Kevin O’Connell and harpsichordist David Adams, explore music in the Irish capital during this period. Featuring music by composers including Handel, Geminiani and Carolan, this innovative musical event will also feature a number of original works by RIAM composers.

Parallel themes of opulence, poverty, emigration, immigration, religion and women and children from the Golden Age and Celtic Tiger eras will be highlighted by musicians and composers alike in what is bound to be a fascinating musical evening for New York audiences.
