Redbrick Duo Album Launch

February 18, 2016 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Redbrick Duo is thrilled to announce the release of their debut album. On Thursday, February 18th they will be performing the album in its entirety at the American Irish Historical Society. Drawing on music from both sides of the Atlantic, the AIHS is the perfect venue for their CD launch. The album brings the listener on a trip through a variety of musical cultures, with each piece inspired by folk music of the region. The CD includes a premiere of Three Piece Suite by Irish composer Ciarán Farrell, works from Balkan Songbook by Alan Thomas, Mark Delpriora’s impressionistic Aubade, and the ever-popular Histoire du Tango by Ástor Piazzolla. All audience members will receive a complimentary copy of the album as well as an invitation to join the duo for a reception following the performance.

Redbrick Duo Bio:

New York City based Redbrick Duo has performed throughout the United States and Ireland, exciting audiences with their unique arrangements and premiere performances while incorporating some of the more popular works of the flute and guitar repertoire. They have given recitals at the American Irish Historical Society in New York City, the residence of the European Union Ambassador in Washington, D.C. and performed as part of the Kaleidoscope Concert Series in Dublin, Ireland. They performed a program of contemporary Irish music and arrangements of traditional Irish music at the Irish Hunger Memorial, NYC, much of which was televised on Ireland TV. Regarding their Washington debut, a journalist for the Embassy Series described their playing and choice of repertoire as being “remarkable for the fullness and richness of its variety, all the more so because it came from two expertly played instruments.” He added that “neither Kelly nor Lipstone tried to overwhelm you or announce their talent: rather the playing seemed to be in the nature of a welcome invitation that…required intent listening.”

Upon meeting at the Manhattan School of Music, Jessica and Damien decided to get together and read through Ástor Piazzolla’s Histoire du Tango. After discussing the possibility of becoming a professional ensemble, they recorded a few videos for YouTube but were left unsure as to what to call themselves. All of their videos were recorded in front of the brick wall in Damien‘s apartment and thus they became the Redbrick Duo. After performing together for one year, the duo decided to enter the studio and record a compilation of their favorite works with the intention of exciting new and old audiences. Coming full circle, the CD begins with Piazzolla’s Histoire du Tango.
Paying attendees will receive a copy of the album on the night.
