Pieta House Darkness into Light Launch

Pieta House, the Irish organization for suicide prevention, has opened its first international non-profit service in New York. Pieta House offers free support from accredited therapists to those who are in suicidal or self harm distress and to those who experience depression. The support Pieta House offers relies solely on donations and fundraisers.

Darkness Into Light, the event that symbolizes hope and the celebration of life, is Pieta House’s flagship annual fundraiser,  In 2009,400 people participated in the first Darkness Into Light event in the Phoenix Park in Dublin, Ireland. In 2015, 130,000 people participated in Darkness Into Light, which took place over 4 continents and in 79 locations worldwide.

At 4.15 am on Saturday, 7th May, participants will walk or run to celebrate the lives of all of those who have gone before us and to provide hope for those who are in distress.

The American Irish Historical society will host the launch of Darkness Into Light 2016, will take place on March 29th with Joan Freeman, founder and CEO of Pieta House, will speak at the launch along with a guest speaker. Guests at the launch will have the opportunity to register for the Darkness in to Light 2016 which will be taking place in Queens and in the Bronx.
