We are delighted to be co-hosting A Tribute to Frank McCourt on Sunday, June 26 at 7.00PM at The Sheen Center hosted by Joseph O’Connor, alongside the Irish Arts Center, Consulate General of Ireland, Glucksman Ireland House NYU, Irish American Writers & Artists, Irish Repertory Theatre, and Symphony Space with the generous support of the Shannon Airport Authority.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the first publication of Frank McCourt’s memoir masterpiece Angela’s Ashes. This hugely entertaining and moving work won the Pulitzer Prize, became a success all over the world, was made into a feature film, and turned a spotlight on the unique relationship between Ireland and New York.

Please join us as the New York cultural community comes together for an evening of readings, music, memories, and tributes to Frank McCourt from special guests including McCourt’s brothers and artists Malachy and Alphie McCourt, 2016 Tony-Award nominee Gabriel Byrne, American stepdancer and choreographer Jean Butler, Pulitzer Prize-winning Irish poet Paul Muldoon, actress Lisa Dwan, Black 47 lead singer Larry Kirwan, composer and songwriter Pierce Turner, comedian and writer Maeve Higgins, former Poet Laureate of US Billy Collins, Irish Repertory Theatre founders Charlotte Moore and Ciaran O’Reilly, and more. Hosted byacclaimed Irish novelist and Frank McCourt Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Limerick Joseph O’Connor.

Proceeds from this special event will benefit University of Limerick’s inaugural UL/Frank McCourt Creative Writing Summer School New York at Glucksman Ireland House NYU.

This performance will benefit University of Limerick’s inaugural UL/Frank McCourt Creative Writing Summer School New York at Glucksman Ireland House NYU this July 7th – 10th, led by Frank McCourt Professor of Creative Writing Joseph O’Connor, with novelist and short-story writer Donal Ryan, poet Mary O’Malley, fiddler Martin Hayes and others. The UL/McCourt Creative Writing Summer School is presented in partnership with Glucksman Ireland House NYU, the Irish Writers’ Centre Dublin, and with the generous support of the Shannon Airport Authority. Applications are open to everyone and no previous writing experience is required, but enthusiasm and willingness to prepare for the program is a must.
